"Event Horizon meets Ripley and psychological horror."

My son is obsessed with Alien vs. Predator, even though he hasn’t seen the movies yet (yes, I am that mom). I admittedly love the movie series, so when I started reading “Ghost Station,” I couldn’t help but get these super creepy “Alien” vibes. It was as if Event Horizon had a baby with Ripley and somehow created this psychological horror novel set in space. I was here for all the vibes, and admittedly, I am now a bit scared of space. The best thing I loved about the book was the suspense and tension. From a derelict station to creepy alien ruins, this book has it all. This is a slower paced novel, but I actually think that is an asset to the story. The slower pace forces the reader to be truly creeped out as things build to an unavoidable climax that one cannot help but dread. There are a lot of secrets involved with Ophelia, the FMC and narrator, but slowly the pieces of the puzzle fit together masterfully. I’m just going to say it: this is my type of book. I was truly questioning everything and thought the plot could have gone in so many different directions, which shows me how beautiful of a storyteller S.A. Barnes is. The atmosphere truly was everything in this book. If you want to try out a sci-fi horror novel with some gore, this one would be the perfect choice.

Space exploration can be lonely and isolating. Psychologist Dr. Ophelia Bray has dedicated her life to the study and prevention of ERS - a space-based condition most famous for a case that resulted in the brutal murders of twenty-nine people. When she's assigned to a small exploration crew, she's eager to make a difference. But as they begin to establish residency on an abandoned planet, it becomes clear that crew is hiding something. While Ophelia focuses on her new role, her crewmates are far more interested in investigating the eerie, ancient planet and unraveling the mystery behind the previous colonizer's hasty departure than opening up to her. That is, until their pilot is discovered gruesomely murdered. Is this Ophelia’s worst nightmare starting—a wave of violence and mental deterioration from ERS? Or is it something more sinister? Terrified that history will repeat itself, Ophelia and the crew must work together to figure out what’s happening. But trust is hard to come by…and the crew isn’t the only one keeping secrets.
