As someone who is not a big romance reader, loving this came to me as a surprise. It checked off all the boxes for me and is my top Emily henry. Happy place mixes contemporary fiction and romance, putting focus on the complex layers of our main character’s personality away from the relationship. It also features a fun, loveable cast of characters and a cute second-chance romance. I loved the emphasis on friendship and its value. Harriet is one of my favourite characters and so many of us can relate to her thoughts and feelings. She is fiercely loyal to the people she loves. She is a worrier and an overthinker. She is sentimental and apprehensive. Emily Henry wrote Harriet to make many readers feel SEEN, and this was the best part of the book. We see the feeling of loneliness and desire to belong, the guilt of balancing what’s best for others and best for yourself, the struggle of choosing your path in life, the fear of change and the nostalgia. It took me on a rollercoaster of smiles and sad tears.
